Skillet or food-warmer, tin-plate, flask-shaped form with cylindrical body and hinged domed cover with flower shaped finial, underneath the cover a cylindrical tin-lined well, a screw stopper over an aperture on the shoulder of the skillet allows hot-water to be poured into its hollow interior; the exterior of the skillet covered with a reddish-black japan and decorated with gilt formal and floral borders, to the front of the body an oval reserve with a formal border containing the printed inscription "THE PATENT THERMOTERION / OR / NURSERY HEAT / RETAINER. / NO LIGHT REQUIRED."
