Roman copper alloy Trumpet brooch

The trumpet head has a lobed margin. The bow is plain except for a light central ridge running longitudinally down the brooch, interrupted only at the waist. A wide shallow groove on each side of a plain waist knob separates it from plain transverse mouldings above and below. The tapering bow terminates in a projecting foot comprising two graduated flaring bands. The large lug behind the head supports the axial bar and is notched below to score the internal chord.
