S.S. NICOLAS (7021gt). Built 1943 as Liberty ship WILLIAM N. BYERS by Permanente Metals Corporation (Shipbuilding Division), Richmond, California, with engine by Willamette Iron & Steel Corp., Portland, Oregon, for the US War Shipping Administration (managed by Isthmian Steamship Co., New York). 1947 Sold to Pateras & Mavrophilippas, Athens, Greece (managed by Lyras Bros., London), and renamed NICOLAS. 1952 Ownership transferred to Ch. Pateras, Athens, (same management). She was broken up at Vado, Italy, in 1964.
