One of a pair of large tie-on waist pockets, made from wool supposedly spun and woven at Talgarreg, and worn by Jane Thomas from Pont-siân.
Brown ground with red and cream check. The cream yarns are cotton. Coarsely woven, plain weave. Top bound with decorative red and cream tape which extends into ties (part torn away/abraded and replaced by cotton tape). Pain weave cotton backing and lining. The pockets differ in that the slit opening and edge of pocket 2 is bound with black (now faded to a greeny-brown) twill braid. Pocket 1 was never intended to have edge binding. The edges are neatly folded in and stitched, whereas the edges of 2 are raw. Brown ground weave uses woollen singles yarns (Z-spun). Red stripes made from 2-ply woolen yarns (S-twist). For the cream stripes, two Z-spun singles yarns are used as one pick.
