Astrolabe
Indo-Persian atronomer's astrolabe, c.1651-1652. Circular brass astrolabe with engraved plate with a rotating ornamental 'rete' or pierced metal openwork engraved with fixed stars and celestial circles. Reverse has an 'alidade' or sight rule held on by type of butterfly clip. Suspended by a ornate pierced metalwork suspension with thumb-rings. All inscriptions are Arabic.
