Welt knife
A cutting tool designed for levelling and trimming the surface of the welt after it had been sewn in. The welt was a strong strip of good quality leather sewn round the lasting margin of the upper, and joining it to the insole. The sole was then stitched to the welt by a second seam. The knife was worked by pushing. The head of the tool contains a fence or guide which prevented damage to the leather upper of the clog against which the tool would bear while being run along the surface of the welt.
