¾ Starboard Bow view of S.S. ACHEO, 13 May 1947.

S.S. ACHEO (6987gt). Built 1941 as EMPIRE RIDLEY by Lithgows Ltd., Port Glasgow, for MoWT managed by Capper, Alexander & Co. 1943 – Requisitioned by the Royal Navy, renamed HMS LATIMER and converted to a cable-layer. Two tanks, each capable of holding 50 miles of 3 inch pipe, were fitted together with paying out / picking up gear at either end of the ship. She was used in laying the PLUTO pipeline between England and France during 1944. 1945 – Returned to MoWT and renamed EMPIRE RIDLEY, managed by A. Weir & Co., London. 1946 – Transferred to the Ministry of Transport, managed by Marine Contractors Ltd., Southampton. She was used as a salvage ship for recovery of the PLUTO pipeline. 1947 – Sold to a Norwegian company and renamed ACHEO. She was converted to a cargo ship in Italy, and then sold to Soc.Ligure di Armamento, Italy. She was broken up at Sakai, Japan in 1964.
