From a window at 45 Brook Street, London W.I
MORRIS, Cedric (1889-1982)
After a long stay in France and extensive travelling, Morris established his reputation with two exhibitions in London in 1924 and 1926. In 1926 he became a member of the Seven and Five Society, being proposed by Winifred and Ben Nicholson. This extremely direct but disarmingly simple view across rooftops recalls the prosaic subjects favoured by the Camden Town Group. It was painted from the cook's bedroom in the home of Morris's friend Paul Odo Cross.
