African bean amulet
Amulet in a box, with a typed note: 'African Bean Amulet carried by private of Royal West Surrey Regiment. 1916'. Acquired by the Museum in 1918 from Edward Lovett, a folklorist and collector from Croydon. The bean is capped with a yellow/cream coloured substance. It is not clear whether that is part of the plant or a medium into which the brass suspension ring could be anchored. Oval shape, slightly flattened at front and back.
