Cup, tea and saucer

Nantgarw China Works (1813 - 1822)

Teacup and saucer, soft-paste porcelain, clear white translucency, lustrous glaze with a greenish tinge; oviform cup on a shallow foot ring, loop handle, plain dish-shaped saucer, also with shallow foot. The cup decorated with a gilt line at the foot, the lower part plain below a running border of gilt scrolls and pink enamel dots, band above strewn with gilt dot flower heads on red thread stems with two green leaves, another running border of pink and gilt dots between blue lines above, deckelled gilt line at the lip, decorated inside with gilt ermine tails and red dots, and painted with a pink dog rose with foliage and two buds below. The saucer similarly painted with with a pink dog rose in the centre, the rim decorated with a deckelled gilt line, a running border of pink and gilt dots between blue lines, a band strewn with stylised flowers as on the cup, and another running border of gilt scrolls and pink dots.
