Roman copper alloy cheekpiece from helmet
Bronze cheek-piece from a legionary helmet. 1st century A.D. This embossed cheek-piece is of Robinson Imperial-Gallic type I. Presumably cheek-pieces were originally lined to protect the face; a pair of these were hinged to either side of the helmet rim, and fastened under the chin.
