Late Bronze Age bronze casting jet
Casting jet - ? four runner technology
Four runner casting jet, oval shaped in plan with a rough and irregular shaped and slightly concave upper surface. Smaller in dimensions than other jets. Jet tapers inwards in profile with a concave curve to form a near circular reservoir base. Wandering curvilinear projections around the side of the reservoir suggest cracking of mould. Two projecting runners and two runner scars are visible. Runners splay laterally. A central projecting wedge of metal bisects the jet under surface along its longest axis. Its function or cause remains uncertain: it may indicate the casting of a non axe artefact, or indicate some fault in the mould. Green patina, with lighter green corrosion surfaces on wedge edges and runner bases.
