Plaque
Original plaque from the ‘Tree of Life’ planted on World AIDS Day, 1 December 1994 in the Gorsedd Gardens, Cardiff. The tree was planted by Mike Philips and Martin Nowaczek (co-founders of Cardiff Body Positive) and the Mayor and Mayoress of Cardiff, to commemorate ‘all those who have lost their lives to A.I.D.S. in Wales’. Since being planted the tree has been the focus for yearly World AIDS Day commemorations on 1 December each year, with people attaching red ribbons to the tree. At the WAD memorial event on 1 December 2021 a new plaque replaced this one.
