Ceramic colours set

Ceramic colours set, comprising: a walnut box with two brass hinges, brass lock and escutcheon and steel key, its base covered with green baize, fitted on the right side with a holder for three bottles and a holder for a glass muller (pestle); fitted with two lift out trays, the upper tray with in the left half ten grooved compartments for bottles of enamel colour and in the right half a compartment containing a glass mixing slab lifted out by a blue silk tab, above which rests on ledges a white porcelain test palette; the second tray fitted with twenty grooved compartments for bottle s of enamel colour (two now empty); the three larger bottles of glass, squat and cylindrical with white-metal-covered cork stoppers, containing respectively remnants of turpentine, thin medium and thick medium; the glass muller of clear glass with a cylindrical shaft and round cushioon-shaped head, ground flat; the mixing slab of clear glass cut roughly rectangular, backed with paper and with a horse's head sketched on in reddish brown unfired enamel; the test palette of white glazed porcelain, the obverse transfer-printed with the Hancock mark and painted with forty patches of fired enamels with a code number scratched in each, a printed paper label (amended in ink) on the reverse providing a key to the colours; in the compartment below the two trays a steel-bladed palette knife with red-stained and carved ivory handle (probably original), a three-tray white earthenware palette (chipped) and a two-ended brush (the two latter both probably not original); twenty-eight small cylindrical glass bottles with corks and paper seals containing the following powdered enamel colours: Old Tile Blue, Persian Yellow, Royal Purple, Olive Brown (seal broken), Red (seal broken), Vandyke Brown, Brunswick Brown, Light Sèvres Green (bottle cracked), Blue Green, Dover Green, Deep Black, Rose Pink, Deep Blue, Sèvres Green, Chestnut Brown (seal broken), German Brown, Carmine, Grey Black (seal broken), Chocolate Brown, Lilac, Soft Turquoise, Ordinary Purple, Roseleaf Green (seal broken), Light Orange, Golden Brown, Outremer Turquoise, Gordon Green, Enamel Glazing (seal broken).
