Lovespoon
Sycamore lovespoon carved 'M Powell Com-nant-moch 1779'.
A lovespoon was a love token made by a young man for his girlfriend. The custom developed from making spoons for the home. The skill was in carving very intricate lovespoons from one piece of wood using simple tools. Nowadays commercial woodcarvers make lovespoons as souvenirs and for celebrating family events.
