Teapot and cover
Teapot, pale cream-coloured earthenware with a soft yellowish tinge to the glaze, inset base, cylindrical sides sloping sharply inwards at the shoulder to a short cylindrical neck, curving spout with foliate moulding around the base, indented loop handle, rounded domed cover with to the top a ball finial with a pierced steam hole through it; transfer-printed in black and in-filled in green, red, puce and yellow enamels with to one side of the exterior body a fortune-telling scene with a male figure seated at a table, two standing female figures and astrological instruments, to the other side a design of astrological tables with the inscription "The XII Houses / I II III IV V VII VIII IX X XI XII / Terra / Luna / Orbus Terra / Ptolomean Sphere / of Heaven / Coprnican System / Published as the Act directs Jany 4 1778 by W. Greatbatch Lane Delf Staffordshire" printed around it, to either side of the cover a winged cupid's head, to the exterior body of the teapot around the spout and handle are wide stripes of a mottled puce ground with large green ovals and reserved panels painted in red enamels with foliate motifs, a similar mottled puce stripe with large green ovals across the top of the cover, the spout and handle picked out in puce.
