Roman bone sword grip
Length of cow metatursus with rounded ends. The face has been carved into wide ribs with incised transverse grooves. A similar object from the fort ditch at Richborough has been identified as a sword hilt (BUshe-Fox 1949, Pl LVI, 151 No 269) with parallels given from Newsteaad and a 4th-century grave find from Cologne. Condition: only about half survives.
