Bamboo flute/recorder made during 1926 Strike
Sherborn, John (John Sherborn was born in 1882 in Bath. He married Louisa Jones in 1905 in Bournmouth when working in the same hotel. They moved back to her homeland Wales and their first child was born in Blaina in 1907. John became a miner.)
Flute/recorder manufactured out of bamboo furniture leg. Painted brown to imitate wood and has painted, and paper flowers applied to it. Cork block inserted at blowing end. It was made during the 1926 General Strike by Mr John Sherborn, a coal miner employed at Blaina. A small musical band was formed that played music on street corners to raise money for their families.
