Cup and cover
Cup and cover, sterling silver, standing on a stepped foot with trumpet-shaped stem supporting an ovoid bowl, two slender curved square-topped handles attached to the rim by a curved acanthus form, the stepped cover echoing the foot in its form, rising to a domed top supporting a bolted finial in the form of a flaming brazier; chased round the foot with a band of laurel leaves on a matted ground, the lower part of the stem fluted above a matted scallop-edged ground, the lower part of the bowl chased with a calyx of large round-topped leaves with pointed leaf tips between, above this a narrow band of chased laurel leaves, above which on one side an engraved inscription, on the other the engraved arms of Fothergill, round the rim an applied cast band of scrolled fruiting vine tendril on a matted ground, an elongated cast acanthus leaf applied to each handle, a laurel leaf tendril on a matted ground cast into their edge, the cover chased with matted stiff leaves above a scallop-edged matted ground, chased gadroons on the domed top.
