Tunic

Officers full dress tunic, Montgomeryshire Yeomanry cavalry. Scarlet with black facings, silver buttons and lace. Major's rank insignia. Maker: Henry Poole's company 37-39 Savile Row (stamped on label at inner neck).

Made from red fulled wool, black velvet at cuffs and collar; cuffs, collar, lower edge and centre front also decorated with silver metal thread braid; epaulettes made of silver metal thread and crown made from gold metal thread and red velvet; epaulettes have a stiff interlining and are buttoned onto a domed silver button. 9 larger domed silver buttons down centre front. Upper section of tunic is lined with white silk twill, quilted against a padded interlining; lower section (from waist down) lined with white fulled wool. Hand-stitched, oval, glazed cotton label at inner neck which bears the printed maker's mark and hand-inscribed name of owner in ink. Collar lined in black satin over a hessian interlining. Steel hook and eye fastening at neck. Black silk-covered hessian flap attached underneath hook and eye fastening. Belt hook at proper left waist. 6 domed buttons and more braid decoration at lower centre back, in line with 25cm long slit at lower centre back.
