S.S. LORD GLANELY, glass negative
¾ Starboard Bow view of S.S. LORD GLANELY entering Cardiff Docks.
W. J. Tatem was elevated to the peerage in 1918, taking the title Lord Glanely. This 5,640 gross ton steamer was named after him upon its completion at Sunderland in 1947, but Tatem never saw the vessel as he lost his life during a bombing raid on Weston-super-Mare in 1942. The Lord Glanely, seen here at Cardiff in 1948, was sold to Pakistani owners in 1960 and broken up at Gadani Beach in 1973.
