Banner
Banner of the Older Lesbian Network (Wales). Made and designed by OLN member, Sue Griffith, assisted by her partner, Liz Morgan. The banner was first used in the parade at London Gay Pride in about 2000. It was then displayed at the OLN stall at Cardiff Mardi Gras for many years.
Banner made from green polycotton fabric. 'OLN' in red letters in the centre, further inscription hand painted onto front of banner. Two large triangular sections have been roughly cut out of the lower edge with edges left unfinished. Side edges of banner are finished with a 3.5cm wide hem which is machine stitched using green thread. The letters O, D and R have been cut out. On the red 'O' in the centre of the banner, the cut edges have been turned back to the reverse and have been secured with overcast stitches using a green thread, whereas on the other letters, the cut edges are left unfinished. There are sleeves for inserting a pole for carrying the banner at the upper corners. These are 17.5cm long and 3.5cm wide and have been made with pink fabric. Three colourful synthetic ribbons are stitched to each side of the banner at intervals to fasten to the poles (yellow, green, red on proper right and, orange and blue on the proper left side). The sleeve and the ribbons have been handstitched using red thread. A long narrow dark purple ribbon has been attached to the upper corners using safety pins. Green fabric has selvages along upper and lower edge (full width of woven fabric = 112.8cm).
