Tredegar brickworks, photograph
Workers at Tredegar brickworks. Fireclay worked in many of the mines was used for making bricks at Tredegar. The clay was "pugged" or kneaded and then pressed and cut into brick sizes before firing in kilns. The women shown are cutting the clay into size and loading the "green" bricks for the firing. Note the timber construction of the building.
