Cup, two-handled
White, John (Free, 3 December 1719. Entered mark, 10 December 1719. Bankrupt, 24 April 1740)
Two handled cup and cover, on moulded circular foot, the lower part of the body and the domed cover decorated with applied strapwork with trellis and shells, with central moulded rim, and scroll handles capped with leaves and ornamented with pendant strapwork lambrequin. The cover with prominent baluster finial. The body engraved with a coat of arms, quarterly of six, in a Baroque cartouche of floriate scrolls crowned with a shell.
The arms are those of Sir Charles Kemeys-Tynte (1710-1785) and his wife Anne Busby (married 1738) and are therefore later. Perhaps traces of erased armorials on reverse.
