Punch-bowl, greyish earthenware, thin and slightly iridescent pearl-glaze, tinged with blue; wheel-thrown, high rectangular section foot-ring, straight sides; painted in underglaze blue, the exterior with a chinoiserie landscape comprising three triple-roofed pagodas between rocks, bull-rushes, trees and plants, water (represented by horizontal shading) in the foreground, flocks of birds in the sky, also with a smaller detached rock with similar bull-rushes, trees and foliage, occupying the remaining space, the interior with a large seven-petalled lotus, flower sprays and an insect within a circular frame, glaze flaking here to reveal the blue-black cobalt, round the inner edge a deep border of petal-formed diaper with lunettes and ermine spots below.
