Seal impression: Durham Episcopal
Under a trefoiled gothic-type canopy, the Blessed Virgin crowned and standing holds her Child. Field diapered lozengy, a ? rose in each space. In field, dext. the crowned head os St. Oswald; sin. the mitred head of St. Cuthbert. In base, under a pointed and arcaded arch, the bishop in prayer. This is the first Durham privy seal to specify its nature ('secret seal') in the legend.
