Late Bronze Age bronze spearhead
Elliptical shaped pegged spearhead. Pronounced central rib tapering down blade evenly from socket. Oval shaped socket with interior tapering to a point down centre of rib. Socket sides have a convex barrel shaped profile. Slight bevelling of blade edges visible. Approx 5.0-7.0mm blade tip fragment has broken off since discovery (as a corrosion weak point). Shallow longitudinal striations visible on spearhead surfaces. Casting seams visible down both socket sides, but partially finished. Peg holes are evenly circular in shape, with excess metal projections around the holes indicating that they were cast. Nick on one blade edge in antiquity, possible use wear. Green patina with patches of black patination (tenorite) on one face along the lower blade and on the side of the socket.
