Medieval ceramic floor tile
Half fragment of a square floor tile made of red/orange clay with slip-on impressed design in white clay.
Lewis group 16 no. 107
Slip-on impression. Shield of arms set diagonally: three chevrons (Clare); formal floral and leaf motifs springing from the top and side, and five roundels. BM designs 1654 and 3065.
It is noted that there is no roundel in the bottom corner of the tile as per the catalogue drawing, which is the same as catalogue number 168.
The badge is similar to those found on catalogue numbers 109, 168, 213 and 214.
