Amphora
Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)
Amphora, earthenware, in the shape of an ancient Greek amphora, standing on a circular foot with narrow short pedestal, bulbous body, high shoulder, narrow rim, bell mouth, twin plain upright handles; the decoration reserved against a black enamel ground so that the red earthenware body is revealed, this then transfer-printed in black with to the body two scenes of an amazon-like figure in a chariot pulled by two horses fighting two chimera (mythical winged creatures), chevron border to the foot-rim, border of running scrolls to the top and bottom of the main body, running leaf border to the neck, wave border to the exterior and interior lip-rim.
