Roman pottery lamp
Roman pottery lamp. This lamp has the usual rounded body with integral projecting spout for the wick from one side and a projecting, circular handle from the other side. The discus has a raised central boss surrounded by a ring of small raised circles, doubled in part; there are also two raised lines which project at an angle from the raised border near the acentric hole. There is some sooting present around the hole where the wick would have sat and within the base-ring on the underside is a group of twelve raised dots.
