Parr, Thomas (See Gordon Pugh (1981) pp 15-17 for the discussion of and attributions to the Parr family, Thomas active c1852-70)
Figure of Uncle Tom, white earthenware, dense and heavy, irregular oval base, but no plinth. Tom seated on a grassy knoll, wearing black shoes, white socks, white trousers striped with pinkish red, green and brown, pink sash around waist, white shirt with collar outlined in gilt, orange necktie, black hands and head. Figure bent forward reading, right ankle resting on left knee and held with left hand, right arm bent and holding a small brown book supported on right knee. Buff sack containg yellow and pink cotton balls lies on green/brown ground under left leg. Modelled and painted all round.
