Black and white photograph showing "General view at Tirpentwys Group, nr. Pontypool. Showing the hugh 'Canyon' like cleft in the mountain plateau which is over 100 ft. in depth, and where at that level face shovels are at work on what is know as the 'Mynyddislwyn Seam' of coal. Dominating the whole scene are two giant draglines working on the removal of the rock over-burden - each capable of taking a 30 ton 'bite'." Dated 11 June 1956.
