Roman copper alloy Polden Hill brooch
Developed Polden Hill brooch with Dolphin bow. The Dolphon bow has a shallow curve; it is grooved down the centre and lacks the skeuomorph of the old forward chord hook. There are semi ciruclar mouldings to either side of the head and vertical ridged and grooved mouldings on the side wings. The spring and the axis bar are of iron, the resultant corrosion obscurring the chord loop. The catchplate has simple open work ornament.
