Teapot and cover
Teapot and cover, hard paste porcelain, raised foot notched around the rim to suggest flower petals, egg shaped body, curved spout, angular ear-shaped handle feathered with small notches down either side, frilled neck, high domed cover, knop formed of two dahlia like flowers back to back. Densely decorated in the Satsuma style, foot largely gilt with small red enamel circles and three pale blue and gilded reserves, narrow undecorated strip above foot. Base of body encircled with a red enamel band marked with gilt rectangles; two large reserves on either side of body, one showing three ladies, one putting a flower in the hair of another, overlooking a river landscape; the opposite showing figures promenading by a river bank; smaller irregularly shaped reserves around handle and under spout of figures in landscape, seated on balconies overlooking river, playing a game? and etc. Brocade ground painted with flower heads, gilt beads and a gilt lattice pattern; lid painted with segments of variously coloured mons, scales, rice pattern etc, central band of flower heads. Knop, handle and spout, painted gilt and red. Small gilt flower head on angle of handle.
