Roman copper alloy Aucissa/Hod Hill brooch
Fragments of the bow of another, small, brooch of the Aucissa/Hod Hill family. Though narrower, the bow is closely similar in cross section and ornament to published no. 12 but differs in its curvature. As extant, the fragments have an insufficiently pronounced curve to have belonged to an Aucissa but too pronounced a curve at the head to be appropriate to a Hod Hill. The brooch may be transitional between the two types but is perhaps more likely to have been a small Aucissa copy. Whatever, its use and loss belong to the Neronian occupation.
