Rufus lets out a howl from the top of Engine 57 (left) on a fire call

ENGSTROM Karen
Tribune Newspaper

Wirephoto published in the Tribune newspaper in 1977. Purchased by David Hurn from MMG Photo Archives.

Full title: Rufus lets out a howl from the top of Engine 57 (left) on a fire call. The Dalmatian, a breed traditionally associated with fire departments, is slowly giving way to other breeds, usually Shepherds and more aggressive watch dogs. Whiskers (above) meets none of the qualifications but is loved nonetheless. One of her favourite sleeping spots is on a fire-fighters coat.
