Medieval bone counter
(Type 4) Tableman or counter/gaming piece cut from antler or cattle mandibles. Lathe-turned flat discs used in tabula or tables (board games). Decoration appears on one side and are usually five concentric incised lines or grooves (3 inner and one outer circle). All have a repeating circle of ring and dot ornament. Type 4 The concentric circles are well defined, comprising one thin outer line, two wide inner grooves and central hole.
