Roman copper alloy stud
Bell shaped stud of Allason-Jones Type 2 with bronze shaft of flat rectangular cross section, in this case tapered towards the now broken end. Bell shaped studs probably served a variety of different purposes depending not only on the nature of the shank but also on the size of each example. Type 2 bell shaped studs can be shown commonly to have been associated with boxes or chests.
