Early Medieval stone bearing

Old Red Sandstone pebble used as a bearing for some form of rotating spindles. THe socket was prusmably cylindrical originally, but is very much worn down on the one side through the spindle not running true. The bottom of the socket is highly polished, and there is a fainter band of polish lying concentric with the socket across the upper face of the bearing. In addition to its use as a bearing, the pebble shows signs of smoothing, and even a slight polish, on both sides and on the base, so presumably it had also been utilzed as a rubbing-stone. Marked battering at the lower left corner suggests thst it may occassionally have been used for pounding, too.
