Pot-lid
Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'Embarking for the East', showing a crowd of figures including highland soldiers about to embark on a steamship, in the foreground a soldier says farewell to a female figure with children, around the top of the scene is printed the inscription "BE SURE THE HAND MOST DARING THERE, HAS WIPED AWAY A TEAR", around the bottom of the scene is printed the inscription "EMBARKING FOR THE EAST", the print enclosed to either side by a narrow fancy border of brown lines on a yellow ground. The glaze crazed.
