S.S. LAKEWOOD, glass negative
¾ Port Bow view of S.S. LAKEWOOD, bunkering at Bute East Dock, Cardif, 29 August 1947.
The 570 gross ton steam coaster Lakewood was owned by the splendidly named Onesimus Dorey & Sons of St Peter Port, Guernsey. Built at Aberdeen in 1919, she is seen here taking on bunkers at the bottom of the East Bute Dock, c. 1948. Dorey's vessels were regular visitors to ports in south Wales, loading cargoes of coal for Guernsey's gasworks and anthracite to warm the island's many glasshouses.
