This view along side of the centre span of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge attracts thousands of tourists each year
Wirephoto published in the Tribune newspaper in 1964. Purchased by David Hurn from MMG Photo Archives.
Full title: This view along side of the centre span of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge attracts thousands of tourists each year but it has also attracted at least 265 persons to leap from it since it was opened in 1937. Yesterday a soldier, Drake E. Rogers Jnr, 20, of Petaluma California, became the 265th known suicide from the bridge. Among the many reasons given for the span's attraction yo persons bent on suicide is that of a California highway patrol officer assigned to the bridge. He thinks it is popular ''because of its convenience, notoriety and glamour''.
