Reverse. The King on a horse prancing to dexter, in armour though helmet not clear, his right hand holds a sword held back obliquely behind him, his left hand holds the reins. The horse bears a short bordered saddle-cloth. In front of the horse, a double rose surmounted by a crown; above the horse’s tail, an ornamented escutcheon crowned, containing an oval shield, encircled by the Garter with its motto: quarterly, FRANCE (Modern) and ENGLAND; 2. SCOTLAND; 3. IRELAND. In foreground of base, a greyhound leaps over foliage to dexter; in background, beneath the horse’s legs, the River Thames and City of London, as on the previous seal, but somewhat differently arranged.
