Sullivan Ironclad Tubinair Machines, lantern slide
A Sullivan Ironclad Tubinair Machine cutting along the face. The timbers shown are 30" from the face and the machine does not tough them and is not held up to the face by them. This shows how the machine can go through a place which would require the timber to be re-set with any other coal cutter. The view is from the haulage end of the machine which is advancing towards the spectator at a speed of about 24" per minute. This is the deep hard seam in Derbyshire.
