Lathe
Metal cutting, treadle operated, with screw cutting capability. Round bed with internal leadscrew, 'three speed' pulley on headstock, driven by a flat belt from a large three stepped pulley/flywheel on treadle shaft. Fitted with a three jaw chuck, bolted to its faceplate. One of a very famous range of small lathes built by the Drumond Brothers Ltd., Rydes Hill, near Guildford. These machines were very popular with hobbyists and small engineering firms (a great many were used by the Army in mobile workshops during W.W.1).
