Royal Navy respirator kit bag used by John Callaghan, an engineer (Leading Hand) on H.M.S. GLAMORGAN during the Falklands War. Green bag with metal popper clasp and velcro fastening with strapping of synthetic tape with above title stamped inside cover above "S.6 Mk II /8405-99-132-2299 C.Q.C. ^/A/78/CLO/38800/DC87(2) with inside pockets containing spare canister and respirator spectacles and disinfecting cloth and anti-dimming outfit container. Inside kitbag respirator, instruction booklet "Survive to Fight Army Code No.71338", two dressings and plastic mug. In outer pocket of kit bag Decontamination Kit, three instruction leaflets and two metal identity tags on one chain
H.M.S. GLAMORGAN. County-class destroyer laid down September 1962 and launched 1964 by Vickers-Armstrong, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Commissioned by the Royal Navy in October 1966. She underwent a major arms refit in 1977-79 including construction of accomodation for her on-board Wessex helicopter. SHe had another refit in 1982 following damage sustained by the enemy in the Falklands War. 1986 – Decommissioned, and sold to the Chilean Navy and renamed ALMIRANTE LATORRE, where she served until 1998. She was sold for scrap in 2005 and sank at sea while under tow to be broken up.
