A socketed base of a pillar cross; three of the sides being slightly splayed, one markedly so. The upper surface has a rectangular socket; the edges of this surface are defined by a stepped moulding symmetrical with the socket, but as the socket is offset towards the E. side, an extra moulding was required to fill the extra space in the W. Each side is decorated with a panel of carving in low relief. A. (S. side): 1. panel composed of a double row of diagonal fret pattern, abutted on the left by; 2. a small square panel of "diaper pattern". B. (W. end): double band of diagonal fret pattern, compressed towards the right owing to the reduction in size of the field. C. (N. side): panel of five-strand plaitwork with pellets filling the spaces. D. (E. end): panel of double-beaded interlace based on 7.1, but with irregular ends.
