Pontardawe tinplate works, photograph
Group of Pontardawe tinplate works employees. Three men wear jackets and ties and are probably middle management. The remainder wear boiler suits and are almost certainly fitters and similar trades rather than engaged on production because photos in the collection from other tinplate works in this period show production workers wearing other forms of clothing, distinctive to their varied roles in the works. Photographs in this period of steelworks fitters and related trades show many wearing boiler suits, which supports the interpretation that this group were similarly employed. Eight of the twelve men are named on rear inscription, where names are captioned in two rows of four suggesting that the names apply to the middlerow and to four of the five men in the front row.
