Tea canister
Coles & Co, Swansea Earthenware House (1780 - 1790)
Tea jar, dipped creamware (a pale slip over a grey earthenware body), cylindrical, domed top, short recessed neck, standing on a shallow footrim, banded in underglaze blue, three lines of beading at the foot and shoulders, one line at the neck, painted in underglaze blue with the inscription 'Thomas, Richards' with a flower trail above and '1783' in a wreathed cartouche below, and (on the other side) with a chinoiserie landscape of a pavillion, rocks, trees and mountains; band of lambrequin cells to the top divided by three diaper panels.
