S.S. GUNNEL, glass negative
¾ Starboard bow view of S.S. GUNNEL, c.1936.
(3078gt) : Built 1900 by Ropner's of Stockton-on-Tees, with engine by Blair & Co. Completed as the PENARE for the Penare Steamship Co., of Falmouth, and managed from 1920 by R.B. Chellew Steam Navigation Co., Cardiff. In 1925 she was sold to N.M. Eustathiou of Syra, Greece and renamed MARIETTA 1929 - Sold to Jura Shipping Co, Ventspils (Latvia) and renamed GAISMA. In 1934, she collided with mv GRIT off Folkstone in thick fog. She was taken over by the Russian Soviet Government, Moscow in 1940, and on 22nd June 1941, GAISMA was torpedoed by German E-boats S-59 and S-60 and sank southeast of Gotland.
